How to choose a work space that doesn't turn your living room or bedroom into a permanent office.

Separate zone

Start with the nature of the work: video calls, concentrated work, or several hours on a laptop. For regular meetings, you need an area with a suitable background and the ability to close the door. An aisle seat may look convenient on the plan, but be a nuisance to other occupants.

Light and communication

Check the location of outlets, the ability to run cables and the available Internet connection options in a particular home. A window in front of the screen and a window behind it create different glare problems. It is useful to place the work surface on the plan along with a chair and storage space.

Day in the apartment

Imagine the simultaneous life of several people: cooking, child activities, relaxation and work calls. Evaluate acoustics and the ability to temporarily isolate the work area. An additional bedroom is not always necessary if the small space is designed for real-life purposes.
