Share and its change

If the share increased from 20% to 30%, the difference is 10 percentage points. The relative increase in the share itself is 50%, since the increase of 10 is divided by the original 20. Both numbers describe the same event in different ways.

Why is this important

The headline "10% growth" can be ambiguous when talking about share. It is useful for the buyer to see the starting and ending values. This is especially important when comparing the structure of transactions, the share of housing under construction and the occupancy of facilities.

Practical test

Record the before and after change, then refine the report wording. Do not transfer the growth of the share to the growth of absolute volume: the share can increase even if the overall market shrinks. Both relative and absolute values are needed for complete output.
