School fees in Dubai: how to check the entire family bill for the academic year

Tuition is just the beginning of calculating school expenses. The family may also pay for transportation, uniforms, materials, meals, selected activities, and support for the child. But adding all the lines in the advertising price list is also wrong: some of the services are included in the training, some are not needed, and some advance payments are then counted towards the main bill.
For private schools in Dubai, the KHDA has announced no increase in school fees for the 2026-2027 academic year. Posted May 22, 2026 and reviewed September 27. This does not mean that your family expenses will necessarily remain the same: your child may change classes, use different transportation, or choose additional services. You need to compare the conditions of a specific class and year.
Start with the School Fees Fact Sheet, not the first price on the website
KHDA provides School Fees Fact Sheet for private schools - a certificate of payments for the academic year. It reflects mandatory and additional positions; The document is available through the KHDA catalog and is linked to the school-parent agreement. Check the year, class and program: a certificate from another academic year does not confirm the price of admission now.
Ask the school to compare this certificate with your proposal and explain the discrepancies. Personal discount, partial school year, special transportation arrangements and services from an external supplier may require a separate document. The result should be a list of exactly what the family buys, with dates and reasons for payment.
Don't equate the "optional" label with being able to do without the item. KHDA separately explains the situation with books: in some schools, the mandatory purchase through the school differs, and not the child’s need for the books themselves. Therefore, check whether an external supplier is acceptable and what characteristics the material must have.

The main control is the absence of double counting. If the deposit reduces subsequent tuition fees, it affects the expiration date but does not increase the annual cost by the same amount. In the calculation, show the advance and the remaining payment separately. Keep the receipt and the document explaining the credit.
For a family applying to multiple schools, application processing fees can become an expense, even if only enrolling in one. Please check their terms and conditions before submitting. Do not include the promised refund in the available balance until eligibility and procedure have been confirmed.
Check transport according to your child’s schedule
The cost of a school bus only makes sense in conjunction with the route. Ask for your pick-up point, departure and return times, estimated travel duration, and address change procedures. Check to see if your area is served and if you can join after the start of the year.
Discuss club and extended stay days separately. If the standard bus leaves earlier, the family may be able to pay additionally for another return method. Then the low transport tariff does not describe the entire expense. Compare bus and independent travel with the same schedule, including the need for adult participation.
For meals, find out what is included in the package you choose and whether you can bring food from home. If you have a food allergy, you should first discuss safety with the responsible staff and then the cost. A cheaper offer without suitable nutritional conditions does not solve the child’s problem.
Support and additional classes require a separate agreement
If your child needs language or other educational help, get a description of the service: who provides it, where the sessions are held, how the need is assessed, and when the plan is revised. The wording “support available” does not specify its composition and price.
Inquire what services the school provides in basic education and what additional services it offers. The terms of additional assistance should be clear before payment is made, especially if the family would not consider enrolling without it. Do not consider support temporary just because it is more convenient for the budget: the period is determined by the needs of the child and the agreed assessment.
Clubs, trips and activities of external organizations are considered according to the actual choice. Find out if equipment is required to be purchased, if there is an obligation to pay for the entire period, and what happens if a class is cancelled. If the service is voluntary, refusal of it should not automatically turn into refusal of the regular curriculum - ask for an explanation of the situation if such a connection arises.
Put discounts and returns in writing
Check the discount by reason, period and recipient. Check whether it remains the same if you change grades, change the number of children in the school, or have a different payment schedule. The promise of a discount for the first year cannot be carried over to the entire term of study.
The current KHDA policy links refunds to the official date of leaving school as reflected in the Withdrawal Certificate document. A child's mere absence from classes does not trigger a return. Before giving up a place, submit the prescribed application and obtain confirmation of the date; Do not limit yourself to a message to the class teacher.
Do not transfer the terms of the return of training to the bus, uniform and external clubs: these services may have different agreements. If withholding is provided, ask to see the basis and calculation. It is more useful to discuss a payment dispute with paperwork and a specific bill line than with a general complaint about an expensive school.
Compare your annual expenses with the money calendar
Add up training after confirmed discounts, required purchases and selected services. Separately indicate advances, offsets and deadlines. If your employer reimburses tuition, check the allowable expenses, limit and date of reimbursement: the family may need its own funds before receiving it.
The verified calculation answers two questions at once: how much the chosen school costs per year and how much money is needed by each payment date. It allows you to compare schools based on the same range of services and avoid a situation where an attractive tuition fee hides an unsuitable overall bill for the family.
