A child needs help at night in the UAE: ambulance number and family action plan
28/09/2026 · AL OASIS CAPITAL editorial team
Overnight medical care for a child in the UAE: ambulance number, warning signs, children's department in Dubai and preparation of family data.
If there is a threat to life in the UAE, call an ambulance on 998. Do not delay the call to find a clinic, check the insurance network or collect documents. Report what is happening to the child, where you are, and follow the dispatcher’s instructions. This number is valid throughout the country; information verified on September 27, 2026 via the UAE government portal.
For other situations, it is useful for the family to know in advance where to get face-to-face care after the regular clinic closes. The overnight availability of a medical facility, the ability to admit a child, and the operation of the required department are two different things. You should prepare a plan before the trip or immediately after the move, so as not to have to figure everything out from the beginning at night.
When you can’t wait for a regular clinic to open
Stopping or severe difficulty breathing, inability to wake the child, convulsions, blue lips or tongue, severe allergic reaction with swelling and difficulty breathing require immediate medical attention. If these symptoms occur, call 998. These are examples of dangerous conditions, not a complete list: if there is a noticeable deterioration or a suspected threat to life, also contact immediately.
For infants, prompt professional assessment is especially important. A temperature of 38 °C or higher in a child under three months of age requires immediate medical attention. Do not transfer the usual home regimen for an older child to a baby and do not wait until the morning to evaluate the result of your own chosen treatment.
If it is not clear how dangerous the condition is, describe the symptoms to a medical professional. Report age, onset of changes, breathing, consciousness, temperature measured, and known illnesses. Do not try to get a diagnosis through correspondence in the parent chat. Parents do not need to identify the illness in advance to seek help.
While waiting, stay with your child and follow the dispatcher's instructions. Do not start unfamiliar procedures based on a random video or give new medications to test a hypothesis about a diagnosis. If your child has a doctor-prescribed plan for a known medical condition, let the helpline know.
What to say when calling an ambulance
Give the exact location: emirate, district, building or hotel name, entrance, floor and room number. Specify the landmark and the possibility of access. The name of a residential complex may not be enough if it has several buildings and entrances.
Please provide your phone number for feedback. Ask another adult to meet the team or alert security if this is possible without leaving the child alone. Do not interrupt the conversation until the dispatcher explains further actions. If your status changes, please report it immediately.
If speaking English is difficult, start by asking for help and location, then briefly describe the main point. A pre-saved address record in English will help explain the entrance, but does not replace a conversation with the service. Do not count on a guaranteed Russian-speaking employee.
In Dubai, check the children's department separately
Dubai Health confirms the 24-hour operation of the dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department at Al Jalila Children's Hospital in Al Jaddaf. Dubai Health reference number is 800 60. This is the health information number; call an ambulance if there is a threat to life - 998.
A 24-hour emergency department does not mean a 24-hour appointment with any specialist on a regular basis. Do not rely on day clinic hours if you need an emergency department. When applying on your own, when your condition allows this method, check the required entrance and admission procedure.
If your condition is serious, injured, or at risk of worsening, do not choose a distant hospital based solely on the article. Call an ambulance: the route is determined by the medical situation and the work of the service. The presence of a specialized child care facility is useful for preliminary planning, but does not replace the decision of the dispatcher and crew.
For other emirates, find out in advance the nearest institution open at night and the possibility of receiving children through its official contacts. Number 998 remains common. Don't transfer Dubai addresses to a family trip to another emirate and don't use the old card on the map as the only confirmation of the regime.
Insurance is issued without delaying the necessary assistance
Save your insurer's or administrator's number, policy details, and emergency notification policies. When the child receives help and there is an opportunity to contact the insurance company, report the request and clarify further processing. In case of a threat to life, medical assistance takes precedence over seeking approval.
Don't promise yourself that any overnight appointment will be completely free or automatically paid for. Financial terms vary by status, policy, circumstances and post-primary care services. Request a clear bill and conditions for further treatment when this does not interfere with necessary medical actions.
If there is a payment dispute, keep the documents and the insurer's decision. The coverage question does not determine the severity of the condition and does not replace a doctor's order. Don't refuse an urgently needed estimate just because you haven't confirmed payment over the phone yet.
Prepare data that will help doctors
| Data | What to save in advance |
|---|---|
| Personality and connection | Documents of the child and contacts of accompanying persons |
| Insurance | Policy, Current Coverage and Assistance Number |
| Medical History | Significant diagnoses and recent discharges |
| Medicines | Names, active ingredients and purposes |
| Allergies | Known reactions and individual medical plan |
| Location | Full residential address and clear entry |
When contacting, tell what has already happened and what medications were given, with the name, amount and time. Do not name the drug only by the color of the packaging. Take documents and packaging if this does not delay emergency assistance; Not having a pre-assembled folder is not a reason to delay calling.
After the examination, ask for an explanation of further actions: appointment, time frame for re-contact and signs that require immediate contact again. If translation is required, please indicate this before ending the call. Make sure you understand the instructions and not just get a printout.
A family overnight plan should be short and accessible to both adults: 998, exact address, verified place of face-to-face care, information about the child and insurance contacts. Its goal is to speed up the circulation and transfer of information, leaving the decision about diagnosis and treatment to medical specialists.
