The UAE economy is growing: in which sectors should we look for real demand?

Which industries are developing the UAE economy and how to check the demand for your product: trade, finance, construction, manufacturing and logistics.

Opening a company in a growing economy and the appearance of paying clients are two different events. Between them are purchasing procedures, competitors, product requirements and money that has to be invested before the first revenue arrives. Therefore, it is useful to continue the question “which industries are growing in the UAE”: who exactly is buying, what problem the purchase solves and why the customer should choose a new supplier.

According to the published results for 2025, the UAE's real GDP increased by 6.2%, and non-oil GDP by 6.8%. These are annual figures for the country, not the growth rate of each emirate or the promise of profitability of a new project. For the entrepreneur, they set the direction of research. The decision to launch requires much more narrow data.

Industry size and earning potential

In the structure of non-oil GDP in 2025, trade accounted for 16.9%, financial and insurance activities - 13.2%, construction - 12.9%, manufacturing industry - 12.8%. These shares show the economic weight of industries. They cannot be read as an increase in sales: a large sector may have low margins, and a small specialized niche may have stable customers.

It is especially important to distinguish between turnover and added value. A company that resells expensive goods may show impressive revenue but keep a small portion for itself. A large flow of money through the market does not mean that a newcomer will be able to cover the warehouse, staff, returns and the cost of attracting a buyer.

The practical entry point is the problem of a specific client. For an importer, this may be an unpredictable supply, for a manufacturer - equipment maintenance, for a contractor - the lack of components of the required specification. While the problem is described with the words “everyone needs quality services,” the niche has not been defined.

Trade: find a buyer before ordering the goods

In a trading project, you first need to define a channel. Sales to the end consumer, store delivery, and corporate contracts require different packaging, pricing, documentation, and inventory. If a potential distributor asks for exclusivity, this also changes the ability to work with other buyers.

Before ordering a batch, it is useful to collect real proposals from competitors and request conditions from potential clients. It is important to find out who makes the decision, how approvals are carried out, when the invoice is paid and who bears the costs of the return. The answer “the product is interesting” is much weaker than the agreed specification and clear procurement procedure.

The next step is to calculate the value of the goods after delivery and finishing in a condition in which it can be sold. This may include transportation, insurance, clearance, storage, labeling and maintenance. The applicability of each expense is checked for a specific product and route. A universal markup for the entire market does not work here.

Manufacturing and construction: where does a beautiful presentation end?

When working with industrial clients, the ability to deliver results after the sale is often more important than an impressive presentation. The buyer of the equipment must understand who puts it into operation, where spare parts are located and how the malfunction will be corrected. These issues should be resolved before signing the commitments.

In the construction chain, you need to identify your direct customer. The developer, general contractor and subcontractor have different obligations and acceptance processes. The mere existence of a large project does not guarantee that a small supplier will receive the order or receive payment quickly.

Before participating in the purchase, you must request a contract form and acceptance conditions. Discussing only the price is dangerous: deferment, withholding of part of the payment, warranty obligations and the procedure for confirming work performed can have a greater impact on cash flow. This is subject to contract-specific negotiations and not the same rules for all UAE projects.

Financial services: high demand is no substitute for permission

Financial and insurance activities carry significant economic weight, but the service offering must first be described legally. Development of software for a financial company, investment advice to a client and management of his funds are different types of activities. Having a regular commercial license cannot be considered permission for any financial transactions.

The review begins with the content of the service: what the client receives, who makes the decision, who holds the money and what is promised in the contract. The applicable regime and competent authority are then determined. Choosing a jurisdiction based on the name of the industry without understanding the company’s actions means risking a mistake even before launching.

For a technology supplier, the practical question is different: how to prove the safety, compatibility and usefulness of the product to the customer. You need to know the requirements for vendor verification, data management, and implementation in advance. They affect the timing of sales and the scope of preparation, even if the service itself is not a regulated financial transaction.

The answers received should be combined into a commercial model with real proposals from suppliers. If the viability of the project rests on immediate payment, but the client agrees only to a delay, this is not a minor adjustment: the amount of capital required for the work changes.

The growth of the UAE economy provides a reason to look for opportunities. The basis for investments is the combination of “understandable client - confirmed need - feasible contract - sufficient money before payment.” This is what you should check before transferring the country’s strong performance into your own business plan.
