Dubai Municipality has announced contract awards for four new projects in Phase Three of the Tasreef programme. The 25 October announcement values the package at AED 3 billion. The works involve constructing and expanding approximately 100 kilometres of main stormwater drainage lines.

Pipes on the new sections will reach three metres in diameter. The projects will cover nearly 100 square kilometres of urban land and connect the areas served with the municipality’s main drainage network.

The largest of the four projects provides for around 42 kilometres of lines serving Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim. Another 14 kilometres are planned between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, including service to Al Quoz’s industrial areas and Al Barsha 1. Separate works cover Al Wasl and areas east of Dubai Water Canal, as well as Al Marmoom.

For homeowners, this is a concrete step in developing the city’s engineering infrastructure. When comparing addresses, useful questions include whether a neighbourhood falls within an announced work area and which connections are planned directly for the building.

Awarding contracts sets the next implementation stage. The new lines still need to be built and connected, so a home should be assessed against existing drainage systems and their maintenance. A citywide project announcement also does not establish the construction schedule on every street: access and possible route changes should be checked against current notices for the specific address.
